Hokay.

Getting back to Prague was no big deal really – these Easyjet people sure do know how to get you across a continent without any fuss, though I do hate being on aisle seats while bored businessmen sit at their window seats not bothering to look out at all. So I annoyed them by listening to bleepy dance music. Just an hour and a half after landing I was back at the Clown & Bard and it was like I’d never been away for 3 months. Half the people I know have disappeared but at least there’s the prospect of some quiet revision time before my teacher training course begins next monday (gulp).
So, I’ve eaten some fried cheese, drunk some Budvar and met up with a few people. Prague seems much the same, strangely. I was expecting some kind of small culture shock but the only thing really different is the absence of a few people. Still, I’ve managed to meet 10 or so new hostel types passing through, all seem pretty nice. I even had a cig, after quitting entirely for 2 months but I just couldn’t smoke it. It was a light too. Which is probably a good sign.
So… things to do, people to see, learning to do aswell. Head to be shaved. Dobry den.

This is the last update and then I’m off.

I’m taking chocolate because czech chocolate tastes of soap and lots of CDs in order to educate the expat americans, well not really. Can’t wait, as I am sure I’ve said before. England can go swing, I’m not going to be back for a year, though I may return for Glastonbury, we shall see. In the meantime, I have to buy some toiletries, pack, usual shit.
So… I’ll see you all later.

hokay, nearly ready, and the website is basically finished, besides all my financial shit being nearly sorted out.
Meanwhile I bought ‘Novelty Rock’ by Denim, which is really seriously good, especially the ‘We Are The New Potatoes’ munchkin-fest at the start. Yes, that does make sense, thanks.
The other day I woke with a splitting headache at 8.30am, took 2 ibuprofen, passed out for 4 hours and woke up with my head spinning. As this is the most exciting thing to happen to me in the last couple of weeks, I really can’t wait to get back to Prague. 3 and a half days to go…

Busy busy busy

Every thing I sort out uncovers another three things to be done, but I think I’ve nearly cracked it. I’m still hoping to finish putting up the website before I go, though that is just over a week away. Still… much stuff to do, I feel like I’ve left it all to the last minute. The main problem is my having only a vague connection to the internet here in the Worcester Records Office, and you can’t use disks in the drives, therefore uploading is a bit of a problem. So apologies for that. I just had to go to the DSS for my national insurance number, never a nice experience – the usual stray dogs and ‘no alcohol’ signs plus long queues and general scabbiness.

moving again

After two telephone interviews I’ve been accepted on two different TEFL (English teaching) courses, so thats good. Have to pay them now but that’s sorted out too. Well, pay one of them, I’ll have to ‘decline’ the other one, a new experience for me.
Otherwise I just noticed that this site is in the name of ‘weejay,’ a nickname I picked up in Southampton 4 and a half years ago and left there 6 months or so ago. I am James now, not weejay. If this doesn’t seem important, well, never mind. I’ve decided to leave behind a lot of things and one of them is the character I adopted as some sort of shield against people, and the name that goes with it. Thankfully I’ve already got a different name.
This isn’t very funny, interesting or well writted so I’ll call it a day and go over to my Dad’s house near Hereford to ship a load of stuff down to / up from my late step-grandmother’s house in Essex.

Its been a long long time

But I’m actually going to update this, right now. So… I’m not in Prague now, I’m in Worcester, worse luck, trying (and lately on the right tracks) to go back and train as an English teacher… Not the most romantic of dreams but practical, true and going to actually happen. Soon.
Meanwhile I’ve been down to Southampton / London / Brighton, Christmas, New Year, Stuff. Much stuff. A good 3 months which is, in fact, a quarter of a years worth of nothing much really. Sheesh. But I’ve got this site up and running, which is a start…

Vyštiz a stafka…. Husinesca

Another couple of amayzing weeks in Praha, many many stories but for the moment they all entirely escape my mind. Last night I was in the biggest club I’ve seen in my life, like 5 large clubs on top of each other, dancing to something or other when huge amounts of dry ice poured out from a nozzle next to me. For 20 seconds or so I saw nothing, but then when the smoke cleared there were 5 guys immaculately done up as elvis all dancing at me. Actually that sounds shit but it was frickin weird.
Already this place, this hostel in particular, feels like its my home and has been my home forever. Theres Scottish Mark, Adam from the ramones, Paul Mcartney and Steve, Lin and Bodil the Swedish girls, Gail the opera singer, Chandler of the secret age, Connor James Macguire the Fifth, Daniel the grandmother opressor, Natalie the cowgirl, Alex the vegetarian millwall hooligan, so many more and every day more people arrive, intending to stay for a few days… heh heh heh. A week is the bare minimum you can spend here. I was seeing this Chilean woman but shes gone back to Chile, which is a shame.., maybe.
Not sure how my liver is doing but as I now consider 3 beers to be a night off drinking I suppose it wouldn’t be wise for me to continue living at this hostel forever… So I will return to England for a bit and sort out a job good enough so I can get a flat over here and just come over to the hostel to drink. Beer is cheaper than water and its cheaper to eat out than to make your own food, which is nice. If anyone I know is reading this then I do advise you to make your way over here. You can have a weeks holiday for, say, 120 pounds, including flight and accommodation, and have a seriously good time.
Haven’t learned much Czech though, just enough to sort of get by. If I meet some more Czech girls this may change though. They seem, on the whole, to be very beautiful and a little psychotic. Some are sane of course, though, and I hang out with Americans too much, so maybe I meed to make a little more effort.
Anyway, if anyone I know is reading this then hello, please feel free to email me at weejay@nme.com, I will return to Scumhampton for new year if anyones got a party going or anything. Put some shampoo in the fountain for me.
Dobry den, weejay

Holy Shit

Got to Prague three days ago and am trying to pace myself on the drinking, but if you know what it’s like, especially the hostel Clown & Bard, well…. I’ve already had the worst hangover of my life the other morning but somehow… somehow I simultaneously slept through some guy falling off the balcony in my dorm (half a bottle of absinthe), breaking his ankle and going straight to sleep again.
Meanwhile, I had better get a job before my money starts to run out.
And maybe get an apartment. I’ve never had so much fun but two months in this place is going to kill me for sure.
Lots of love to all the Southampton types, wherever they may be, by the way.

And another thing

Don’t know If I can be bothered to keep updating this. So much to recount but I’ll have to skim.
Ended up having a really good time in Budapest, found the coolest hostel, generally had a party, went to a rock gig with some Hungarian Hard Rock which is kind of like RATM but better, the truth be told, though obviously can’t understand a word. My railcard is running out so I thought I should pop up to Krakow before my time in Prague begins. Found a nice place, like a hotel but only 10 quid a night. Glad I came here, is kind of like the level of Prague but undiscovered by the American tourists with video cameras and shellsuits.
It seems like an age and a half since I left Scumhampton and I find that now I’ve escaped from its influence it seems like just another infinite speck on the horizon. Cant believe I spent so much time there. The diseases it infected me with – boredom, insomnia, cynicism, nostalgia, gossip – seem to be passing from my bloodstream so quickly I fear going back in case they return. All the petty fucking local intrigue and scandal – what a load of shit and you know I forgot there was a whole world outside.
You know what the most interesting thing I’ve found is? That moreorless everyone I’ve met has been good. Every nation included. The only people I’ve taken a dislike to (apart from surly shop staff who exist everywhere) were some upper class Englishmen who talked down to me because of my non upper class accent. Yeah, get that – as an average, we’re the worst in the world. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
