So I stayed up most of the night on Thursday to watch the election, first in the living room, then in Liam’s room as he’s got a wide-screen TV and there was added entertainment in that he’d taken a blue valium and spent about two hours almost but not quite asleep. He kept spending twenty minutes getting his computer on and onto the internet, forgetting why he was on it, then spending twenty minutes shutting it down.
Anyway, the greens didn’t win Brighton. Damn close, but no prizes for runners up. I passed out around 4 and when my alarm went off I phoned in sick, which was about 50% skive and 50% my fault for only having 3 1/2 hours sleep. Dozed the rest of the day before remembering that it was John’s birthday, so finally left the house at 8.30 or so. At the bottom of the hill in the park was a spring fair in full spring and with the sun still out, the air clear and hot and people everywhere out and having fun it felt like the real first weekend of the summer. I got to the bar, met up with everyone, had an orange juice and then had to go home, take a sleeping pill and go to bed at 11. Fucking Saturday work.
Speaking of which… well, let’s not, eh?
Now I’m just about to go over to Duncan & Amelia’s to eat and watch some DVD or other.

It’s been a life of leisure for me these last few days, off work with another throat infection making me barely able to speak, let alone tell people why it’s £6 for a copy statement. I’ve spent my time fairly wisely I’d say and have finally decided to go ahead and upload my almost completely new website, which is still here – http://www.lastnightadjkilledmydog.co.uk . Though it isn’t exactly finished as such I decided it probably never really will be, so there you go. It’s been fairly sunny and I don’t want to be stuck inside with dreamweaver next week. Other than that, I went to the doctors’ again this morning and found out I don’t have asthma, but some allergy to something. He prescribed me some neoclarityn on top of everything else, we’ll see how that goes.
Today is also the general election in England, in case anyone wasn’t aware, and there’s a slim chance that Brighton Pavilion (that’s where I am) will elect Britain’s first Green MP, so fingers crossed about that. I voted for him at least, and if the poll was determined by the number of posters in windows he’d already have won by a fair stretch. I’ll be staying up fairly late to see what happens tonight, should be interesting locally at least. The rest of the country seems to be a foregone conclusion, the lesser of two evils due to win easily.

A fairly alright weekend, to make up for all the recent ones I’ve spent dozing, and all thanks to some sleeping pills called ‘Zopiclone’ which meant I had a proper Friday Night’s kip, for a change.
Work on Saturday was tiring, but better than in the week as it’s a bit more social working on a Saturday somehow. Took a call from some old lady at 7.30am which continued until nearly 8.15 and had to get myself out of going for a drink with her in the Grand Hotel. “Have A Nice Life” she said at the end.
Went home for some food and a shower then went out to Duncan & Amelia’s place to set out for a night in town. Walked for ages to get to the Sidewinder and sat outside, joined by John, Marcus, Duncan’s sister and her friend, Amelia having to walk round and take photos of people for the magazine. Not a bad place really, some guy even called the barmaid over so she could serve me before him. Very polite indeed. At closing time we went off to the Pav Tav, Brighton’s equivalent of Rhinos in Southampton, i.e. a dingy indie club, but obviously playing better music as it is Brighton. Bumped into Charlie & Rich who were both very drunk indeed, then sat around, drank, talked and didn’t dance. Tim and Iso arrived too, meaning that pretty much everyone who could be there was.
We all walked back across the Pavilion gardens where some guy was lying on a bench with a bleeding head, down the road where some joyriders tried to run us over and to D&A’s house, where we had a smoke and some pizza. I walked home at 4am and didn’t get murdered.
Sunday I woke up at 2pm and went downstairs to find a French guy looking around and that Ramon is moving out of the house to go back to Spain immediately. Quite a surprise. Apparently his mother has a tumour and he has to go back to see her. I’d like to have some choice in the new housemate, but really can’t be bothered. For the evening I went round to Duncan & Amelia’s again and we watched North By Northwest with Rich , Charlie & Duncan’s sister.
As for today, haven’t done much with my bank holiday really except vaguely try to organise my newly acquired music. Then gave up and watched a Vivian Stanshall documentary.

Jeez. Maud Flanders’ death is really not cool. What a shark-jump.

Had a nice couple of days off finishing the projects, which will be unveiled on Sunday for sure now. It’s ready today but I haven’t got the time as I have to watch the Simpsons and Derren Brown then take a sleeping pill. It feels good to be halfway productive again, though the main reason is my lack of overtime. Or a real social life.
Did go out last night though. Not out out, just out for a meal as Duncan and Amelia were respectively reviewing / taking photos of a pub for the next issue of the Source magazine. The place was pretty nice, I had chips and Czech beer, none too shabby a combination. Also got the opportunity to see John’s new flat, which is huge and in a good condition. All in all quite a find.
It was drizzling on the walk back, as it did for both my days off. Then today I had to work so it was really sunny. But not too bad, nonetheless. Actually spoke to some people at the temps’ lunch too, though it may well be my last as I’m going “permanent” at some time in May.
Soft Machine Third is the greatest album in the world. I don’t know how I’ve got by without it all these years.

What I have learned already today

Low fat garlic bread is completely inedible. Which makes sense. What retard would buy such crap? Oh, me.

I was up late last night, mainly concerned about an old friend who seems to be in a bad way. Managed to get to sleep at 3.30 or so, then woke at 7.15 and wandered how I’d managed to sleep through my alarm. Dressing in a hurry, I dashed downstairs to see Ramon walking naked back from the shower, not what I wanted to see first thing in the morning.
It was after brushing my teeth and making coffee that I realised I didn’t start work until 9, as I have for the last five months or so. Couldn’t go back to bed at that point, so I watched an Eddy Izzard DVD for an hour before setting off down the hill to the office.
Having had less than four hours sleep and only four and a half the previous night, I wasn’t feeling at my best. At about 9.30 I had a call where I got halfway through before forgetting what I was doing and reciting “How can I help you” like a parrot. The woman asked if she could speak to someone else. Sleep deprivation, kids, not a good idea.
Lunchtime I went swimming again, though I suspected it wasn’t a good idea as I was still in a daze. Managed to swim 16 lengths or so, but then started to feel really sick, so got out and sat in the office eating cake for a while.
The afternoon was bearable only because I knew I had two days off at the end of it. Some twat said “Excuse me, but don’t you think your manner is a bit brusque?” without a hint of irony.
Now I’m home, sleep for real this time.

I did a meme. Sorry.

Went to work, swimming, back to work. Had some chicken casserole when I got back to the house, was tasty (ta, Liam). The house seems very empty while the girls are away, but at least I’ve got dvds to watch and so on. I’ve got a recurrent problem with my right side wisdom tooth that’s a bit distracting. I’m using disgusting dental antiseptic instead of actually going to the dentist. I think that sums me up really. Not scared of going, really, just can’t get round to it until I actually have an abscess.
Just watched Eternal Sunlight… for the second time, still a great film but not much of a mood lightener really. Then it was bedtime. But I’m still up. Hooray.

Working on “The Project” all weekend. Thought it would be finished Friday, but guessing next Friday at the earliest now. And then not finished, but ready enough to start with. No, I’m not saying what it is. It’s not going to be a big surprise to anybody, though.
This weekend my first DVDs arrived from Lovefilm. I don’t want to be advertising, so I won’t go on, but suffice to say that I’m greatly impressed. Spent most of Saturday trying to work out how to copy DVDs. It certainly is harder than you’d think. At 7 hours total copy time I don’t think it’s really worth it.
The doctor gave me some new stuff to spray up my nose called mometasone, and it actually works. Have been able to actually smell things all day, which is more of a mixed blessing than I’d hoped. For a start there’s an odd smell in my room, probably the laundry or something, so I’ll have to take action about that. He gave me some sleeping pills that actually work too. Don’t worry, I’ll be careful.
So… tired… bed. No pills required tonight. Only on Friday nights.
