1 Response to Things In China: Beijing Zoo

  1. Alf Hucom says:

I find the entire package of a live-animal zoo to be repulsive, the terrible smells, the empty-eyed inhabitants so far from their native realities – but I am not actively campaigning for abolition or anything like that, to each his own. “Wild” animals in a zoo-setting are the only opportunity for many people to get up close to non-native (and native) species – and as their habitats are diminished, the zoos may be the last refuge for many individuals on Earth (us too?). However, the Beijing Blue Zoo is wonderful – I’ve never had the same adverse feeling about aquatic life as I do regarding terrestrial – I guess I’m a bigot, lol!
