From stealthmunchkin…
How many times has someone on your friends list posted about something and you were really confused, but you didn’t want to ask because you knew you SHOULD know? How many times have you felt ‘guilty’ asking a close LJ friend a question that should be ‘obvious’?
Well, here’s your chance.
If you’ve missed a few things, missed an entry and are confused, ask me any thing. Even something EXTREMELY basic, like where I live! I’m not allowed to get even slightly irritated at any of the questions* – we’ve all missed things before. In turn, though, you must repost this in your own journal.
*This isn’t likely as I don’t exactly get a lot of comments on here. Wouldn’t be at all surprised if I got two hundred hits and not one question. The button to comment is down here —————————————————>
Why did you decide move to China to teach English?
I got caught up in teaching English when I moved to Prague. I’d just been travelling around Europe, ended up there and didn’t want to leave. After experimenting with a few other jobs I settled into ESL because it was the only thing available for somebody who didn’t speak Czech.
After a couple of years in Prague it turned out that teaching there wasn’t any way to make a living and I thought I’d like to see a little more of the world before I settle down and grow up. Teaching is a good way of travelling for somebody who wants to stretch it out for years and hasn’t got the financial resources to fund it. I thought Japan would be good but it turned out I couldn’t get a working visa without a university degree, so I got a job here instead, and here I am.
Hi – Same poster as previous question – anyway, just to say I’ve enjoyed reading about your exploits since I found your ‘blog on a Prague-based site. Have you thought about writing a book or contributing to a travel guide based on your exploits? Weird that nobody else has asked a single question though…..
There are many vague ideas somewhere down the pipeline, but I’ve got a rule about not writing about things for two years after they happen, so not thinking about that…. yet.
One idea I do have, though, is to write a proper guide to Prague that tells you things you need and want to know. There’s a good one in Brighton called the ‘Cheeky Guide’ that doesn’t assume you’ve come to look around churches and stay at expensive hotels, I think Prague should have one too.
